Decades of proven surveillance service
The Britten-Norman Islander is a global surveillance workhorse and twin-engine STOL utility aircraft that has logged decades in patrol, reconnaissance, and special-mission roles worldwide. Its high-wing configuration gives observers and sensors an unobstructed downward view, and its short-field performance opens strips other twins simply cannot use.
Available with economical piston engines or Rolls-Royce turboprops, the Islander adapts to mission profile and operating budget alike, with the multi-hour endurance extended patrol tasking demands.
AIMS-ISR on the Islander
AIMS-ISR has flown on the BN-2 Islander, giving the type’s famous observation geometry a digital partner: georeferenced moving maps, integrated sensor control, and evidence-grade recorded mission data. EO/IR, patrol radar, or custom sensor fits come under one unified interface. A single-operator workstation means fewer crew, lower training overhead, and faster tasking cycles.
Mission profiles
- Surveillance: long patrol endurance over defined areas with the high-wing observation advantage
- Coastal & overland patrol: STOL capability and economical operation from remote and austere bases
- Special mission aviation: a flexible cabin for customs, environmental, and survey tasking
