24 souls in distress, lost at sea. What was planned to be a customer flight demonstration suddenly became a real-life search and rescue mission – saving 24 lives.
Ostend, Belgium: Having performed a demonstration with the Diamond Aircraft DA42-MPP for the Coast Guard the day before, October 27th’s demonstration was set to be a routine one. Suddenly an emergency phone call from the Belgian Maritime Rescue and Coordination Center thrust the aircraft into action. The target – a tiny dingy carrying 24 people floating in an unknown location within the North Sea. It was located just 15 minutes after takeoff, thanks to the collaboration between Sentient Vision’s ViDAR and Trakka Systems’ EO/IR camera, all under CarteNav’s AIMS-ISR mission management system. All 24 lives were saved.
